Smaragdweg - Habachtal

The Smaragdweg (Emerald Trail) starts at the car park in the Habachtal (don’t forget to pay the parking fee) and follows the babbling Habach stream through an impressive and varied landscape. Along the way, you’ll pass several educational and play stations, making this hike a real adventure for children.

Once you reach the alpine pastures, you’ll arrive at the welcoming Enzianhütte – a perfect place to take a break. Children can enjoy themselves at the playground and, if you're lucky, you might even spot the cheerful piglets roaming outside – always a hit!

From here, there are several spots by the stream where you can try searching for emeralds yourself. All necessary tools can be borrowed from the huts. We've already found some beautiful stones – no emerald yet, but maybe you’ll have better luck! ;)

Be sure to continue a bit further across the pasture to the final hut: Moa Alm (approx. 1,410 m), where you can sit back and enjoy the stunning view. (Tip: don't miss the Brettljause here!)

Experienced hikers can continue from Moa Alm up to the Neue Thüringer Hütte – about a 3-hour hike and a truly rewarding full-day tour.

Good to know: The Smaragd Taxi (uphill, downhill, or both) is included with the Nationalpark Sommercard. Be sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment – space is limited!

Venedigerweg - Obersulzbachtal

Start at the parking area at Hopffeldboden (or further down by Gasthof Siggen – in that case, you’ll pass the beautiful Blausee first) and follow the stunning valley trail. For the kids, we have a stamp booklet available at reception – time to collect stamps along the way!

After about 1 hour of walking, you’ll reach the charming Kampriesenalm, a great place for a short break or a slice of delicious Apfelstrudel.

A little further on, you’ll arrive at the much-loved Berndlalm (approx. 1,514 m), our absolute favourite. Enjoy tasty local dishes and let the kids meet the animals at the small petting zoo – always a hit! A taxi service is available here too, but unfortunately it’s not included in the Sommercard.

Want to continue? Hike on to the Postalm (approx. 1,700 m) – unfortunately currently closed, but still worth passing for the beautiful view.
For the diehards: continue from the Postalm up to the Kürsinger Hütte at 2,558 m. From the material cableway (Materialseilbahn), it’s a solid but scenic hike of just over 2 hours (from around 1,930 m to 2,558 m and 3.1 km).

👉 Tip: You can also take your (e-)bike all the way to the end of the alpine road and then continue by foot. A great way to save energy for the final, steep stretch up to the hut!

Untersulzbachtal - Untersulzbachwasserfall

This hike is one of our true hidden gems, a place we love to visit ourselves.

You start at the base of the Untersulzbach Waterfall, easily accessible from Gasthof Schütthof. Take the path on the left-hand side uphill. This circular trail is about 2–2.6 km with 176 metres of elevation gain — easy to moderate (approx. 1–1.5 hours) — quieter than the Krimml Waterfalls, but just as impressive.

Along the way, you’ll pass several scenic viewpoints where you can admire the 80-metre-deep waterfall gorge, with bright yellow leuchtflechte lighting up the rock walls, truly spectacular for all ages. On warm days, this is a refreshing and pleasant walk, thanks to the waterfall spray and shaded areas.

Afterwards, enjoy a well-deserved drink or snack on the terrace of Gasthof Schütthof, while the kids have fun in the play area.

Fancy hiking further? Continue on to Finkalm or Stockeralm. Finkalm offers delicious homemade products!

Don’t forget your camera, this trail is wonderfully photogenic. Sturdy footwear is recommended, especially in wet conditions.

Hollersbach 6

Hollersbachtal

You can park for free at the Reitlehen car park, just before Restaurant Seestube. From there, follow the valley trail alongside the gently flowing Hollersbach stream — a varied and easy hike, perfect for all ages. Once you reach the alm, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a scene from The Sound of Music.

At the Senninger Alm (approx. 1 132 m), take a break and enjoy homemade food and drinks in a cosy, authentic mountain hut that’s also child-friendly.

For those who want more: continue hiking from the Senninger Alm to the Neue Fürther Hütte at approx. 2 198 m. This is a demanding hike of around 8.7 km one way, with an elevation gain of about 1 066 m. Expect another 4 to 4.5 hours of walking.

A helpful option: shorten the tour with the Hüttentaxi, which will take you up to the Senninger Alm — free with the Nationalpark Sommercard.

👉 Tip: This route is perfect with an (e-)mountain bike — ride to the end of the alm road and continue on foot. That way, you’ll save your energy for the final, steeper section.
